Nintendo reveals new console – The Nintendo “Switch”

Nintendo has finally given the public a glimpse at what the NX is. The 3 minute trailer below show the console acting as a hybrid between a handheld and home console system. The rumors were true after all.

Users are shown playing the system on their television before removing a screen with detachable controllers from the dock and leaving the house with it to continue playing their game. The removable portion looks like it contains the game, using physical cartridges. The dock likely just displays the game on the television instead of the handheld device. We also get a brief look at the standard controller which is basically A Wii U Pro controller with concave, off-set analog sticks, not unlike the Xbox 360 controller.

This could mean no more handheld or console exclusives as far as Nintendo platforms go, which is good for players as it gives everyone the option to play at home or on the go, no matter what game it is.

Quite a lot is shown in the way of games, so pay close attention. Aside from the obvious Zelda: Breath of the Wild footage we’ve already seen, we can see a new Super Mario game, which looks like it may play like a tradition 3D Mario game such as Mario 64 or Galaxy. We can catch a glimpse of a new Mario Kart, which at first glance looks like Mario Kart 8, but note that there are two item slots per character, as well as King Boo. These are things that do not exist in Mario Kart 8. Another game being played looks to be Skyrim, as well as an NBA game. Nintendo has gathered several partners for the Switch, so we may see much more third-party support than the Wii U had.

The Nintendo Switch will be available March 2017.
